Notes for Code Geass Episode III – Oudou

  • New opening scene with Lelouch, Jeremiah, Rolo and Sayoko
  • [3mins 10sec] New scene with Xingke before the 2nd battle of Tokyo
  • [23mins 50sec] In the TV anime, Luciano had a team called the Valkyrie Squad under him with 2 younger girls who Kallen kills. One of the girls was Marika Soresi, the little sister of Kewell Soresi, a minor character in the Pureblood Faction who originally gets killed by Kallen in S1 during the Narita battle. In the movie, Kewell’s death was removed from the first movie. A reference to him was made in the 2nd movie, being 1 of the people responsible for bringing Nunnally home to Britannia. In the 3rd movie, Kewell is shown dying here to the (new) Guren. The Valkyrie girls were removed from the movie entirely. Why? Because in Oz the Reflection, a spin-off manga that came out after R2 finished airing, the manga retconned Marika’s death. Keeping in line with this new canon, it’s Kewell who dies here now instead of his little sister.
  • [36mins 16sec] Shirley has been added into this scene.
  • [40mins 15sec] The nature of the Black Knights’ betrayal has changed entirely. It’s been reframed to look as though Schneizel forced them to do it. The Black Knights are nowhere near as gung-ho as they were in the show now. Additionally,  one of Kallen’s lines from the TV show where she tells everyone to let Zero have his word has been moved to being one of Ohgi’s lines. This really pissed me off. In addition, Ohgi now begs Zero to speak the truth. (Recall in the first season, Ohgi was the one who believed that Zero wasn’t actually using them as pawns – that someone who has experienced anger wouldn’t be able to do that.) According to Taniguchi, this change was made because “we didn’t have time to tell the betrayal sub-plot”, but that’s straight bullshit because all of the scenes leading up to the betrayal were still in the movie. What is actually going on here is that Taniguchi is and always will be a hardcore Ohgi stan, and he was upset that people thought Ohgi was stupid and said that you would have to be older to “understand” Ohgi.
  • [50min 30sec] New scene where Ohgi punches Diethard. (This happened in the TV show, but off screen – Diethard just reappeared later with bruises.)
  • [50min 40sec] New scene with the Camelot gang where Cecile explains that Suzaku left the Settlement. According to Taniguchi, the scene where Schneizel and Suzaku troll each other into rebelling against the Emperor was removed and replaced by this one where Cecile says Suzaku took off on his own in order to make Suzaku look “less passive”. In my opinion, the reason why Suzaku is “passive” in this movie is because they removed the fucking scene where he laughs like a madman.
  • [50min 57sec] New scene of Suzaku flying a craft to Kamine Island to kill Charles. Directly related to the change above, the dialogue also changed a bit. Charles asks Suzaku if Schneizel is behind this, but Suzaku affirms that he wanted to do this himself.
  • [1hr 3mins 40sec] Suzaku has a new line about him trying to fulfill the wishes of those who wouldn’t fulfill their wishes by themselves. I deadass have no idea what he’s talking about. blak put a specific gender, but idk, maybe this is talking about Nunnally and Euphy? Or maybe it refers to all of the people he killed when he fired a FLEIJA?
  • [1hr 10min 50sec] New (fabulous) particle effects when Charles and Marianne vanish.
  • [1hr 13min] New scene at Ashford where Shirley gets a phone call.
  • [1hr 20mins 20sec] Nina is now in on Zero Requiem way earlier than in the TV show. New convo about the gang’s next move.
  • [1hr 21min 30sec] New scene where Milly moves the plot along.
  • [1hr 21min 40sec] New scene where Lelouch approaches Japan.
  • [1hr 21min 44sec] New scene where Shirley is going somewhere but encounters C.C.
  • [1hr 24min 30sec] The “Britannia joins the UFN” scene is now different. There’s no child’s play pen around Lelouch. Kaguya was also re-drawn here. A flashback also explains that the Black Knights don’t want to go around telling people “He has a magic eye.”
  • [1hr 26min 55sec] Nunnally now declares herself to be the one, true Empress. TV line was “I’m your enemy.”
  • [1hr 45min 20sec] This scene is from the TV show but there’s a couple of new lines.
  • [1hr 51min 55sec] In case you didn’t know Oz the Reflection was canon by now, with the reference to the Zevon family and the movie matching of retcon of Marika’s death, the Lancelot Grail from Oz the Reflection makes an appearance here.
  • [1hr 53min 40sec] Since Mao and the video trick were never in the movies, the “Serve Zero” bit was changed. Diethard explains what happened for the audience.
  • [2hr 9min 10sec] Zerozaku’s entrance was re-animated and now features a spinkick and a Bulging Pink Sword. Shirley and her family (remember, her dad never died in the movies) have also been added to the spectators.
  • [2hr 15min 7sec] Shirley now takes over narrating.
  • [Post-Credits] New scene with C.C.
